Physiotherapist
Physiotherapy is a method of assessing and treating physical problems affecting everyday life such as pain, loss of function in joints, muscles and the nervous system and treating them appropriately.
The commonest are:-
- Musculo skeletal conditions such as whiplash and frozen shoulder
- Arthritis
- Post operative mobilisation problems
- Chronic chest problems
You will need a referral from a doctor. The first appointment usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being assessed. With your consent, the physiotherapist will need to see the injured/painful area in order to examine you, so this may involve getting undressed. It would help the physiotherapist if you brought shorts with you if you have a back, hip pelvis or leg condition. To enable full consent for treatment, patients under the age of 16 years should attend with a parent or guardian.
Follow-up appointments last approximately 20 to 30 minutes and it is important to arrive on time. If you are unable to attend and do not contact the department, you will be discharged. Your doctor will be informed.
